VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers play a critical role in the life of non-profits. They are the
most rare and valuable of human resources – the ones who don’t
ask to be paid for their time. As an organization that was founded
by a group of volunteers, Casa Myrna Vazquez has a long tradition
of working with individuals who want to make a difference in the
lives of those who are struggling with adversity.

There are two different ways of volunteering at Casa Myrna – working directly with the women and children in our shelters and community-based programs (direct service volunteer opportunities), or providing support at the main office (non-direct service). Non-Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities

Make a difference in the lives of women and children by helping Casa Myrna

Many individuals can help us by donating their time at our main office providing administrative support, and/or by volunteering skills and expertise for which we would otherwise have to pay outside consultants and contractors. We are ALWAYS interested in individuals who can:

• Greet visitors to our main office in Boston’s South End – volunteers are needed for all shifts between 9AM and 5PM to staff the front desk, answer the phone, and perform a variety of administrative support functions.
• Coordinate donation drives at your office, school, church, book group or family reunion to collect gift cards (CVS, Marshalls, Target, Wal-Mart) and/or cash donations for Casa Myrna programs
• Host a house party for Casa Myrna to help us raise funds and spread the word about our work. You provide the guests, food and drink – we’ll send over some staff members with brochures and compelling stories to tell about the work we do.
• Organize the shelves in our food pantry and donation center.
• Write and/or design brochures, newsletters, annual reports, special event outreach materials – this can be done from your own home, working with our Director of Development and Communications here at the main office.
• Research the latest statistics and trends on domestic violence nationwide and statewide, to help us keep the information on our website up to date. All information must have a source that can be readily checked.
• Plant flowers, bulbs, herbs or shrubs at one of our shelter sites.
• Bring your creativity to us! Come up with your own unique ideas for projects. We are very flexible and open to new volunteer opportunities.
