Community of Conscience Breakfast
On May 20, we held our Sixth Annual Community of Conscience Breakfast at the Wyndham Boston/Beacon Hill, raising $115,475 and welcoming nearly 250 guests. The generosity of our sponsors, advertisers, and all who attended helped set a record for Casa Myrna. We are particularly grateful to our lead sponsors, Verizon HopeLine and United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. A huge thanks Laura and Eric Peterson for matching all gifts made at the breakfast up to $12,000. Reverend Liz Walker was an outstanding emcee. Survivor Nadine Walker Mooney, Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Karyn Polito, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans and Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley all gave inspiring remarks on the theme of “celebrating progress.” We presented the Norman Knight Charitable Foundation Leadership Award to Megan Gates, immediate past president of the Casa Myrna Board, and the Myrna Vazquez Advocacy Award to Councilor Pressley.
Kudos to Our Casa Myrna Champions
We are so grateful to our five Team Casa Myrna Boston Marathon runners and to the John Hancock Non-Profit Program for generously supporting Casa Myrna at the 119th Boston Marathon. Their hard work certainly showed on race day. Our runners finished with impressive times, and as a team they have raised more than $37,000 for Casa Myrna! Their dedication has made a significant impact on the lives of survivors. If you would like to contribute, there is still time to donate – click here to meet the team and view their Crowdrise pages.
2015 Make It Your Business Networking Event
A huge thanks to Governor Charlie Baker for giving the keynote at our second annual Make It Your Business Reception on March 31! The Governor inspired business leaders to uphold a culture of support for employees and intolerance to domestic violence. His care for survivors and unwavering commitment to strengthen legislation in this area are outstanding. The event raised more than $10,000 for Casa Myrna. We welcomed close to 150 guests and presented the inaugural Corporate Engagement Award of Excellence to Charlene Bauer (Metro Credit Union), Carol Churchill (Distrigas of Massachusetts – GDF SUEZ) and Risa Sherman (Sam Adams – The Boston Beer Company). Thank you to Metro Credit Union and the Newmarket Business Association for hosting the event.
